Spectra Film - Polaroid - Last Batch
Spectra Film - Polaroid - Last Batch
Introduced in the late 80's Spectra cameras were seen as fancier then the 600s on the market with better focusing, a high build quality and larger print area but it for all its praise the cameras did not age well.
Quality control in 1986, when the Spectra came out, was not a high priority any where in the world that year, just to name a few massive oversights in quality control that went wrong in '86 we got the O-ring on the Space Shuttle Challenger, Chernobyl in Russia and Mad Cow broke out in the UK. I mean on the up side Top Gun came out that year.
This oversight in the build of the Spectra cameras quality would probably have gone un noticed if Polaroid had not started making film again but the short and long is this:
Due to the decaying of some circuits in a large amount of the Spectra cameras they have a high chance of jamming or needing some assistance coming out. This is also why its so hard to find Spectra film, currently Polaroid is trying all sorts of tricks to get to work more consistently. There is a nice write up about it here if you want more detail: CEO Q & A
We have 2 Spectra cameras and both really struggle to eject the film but its kinda cool to fire up a camera my mom used to snap pics of us kids with.
