Florida Drop

FLORIDA DROP MMXVIII

It all started as a quick trip to central and south Florida, Nip down to Miami to snag some fellow explorers and make our way north.

We wanted to honor the “Old Florida”, the Florida that your grandparents remember from Airboats in the everglades with the Tail family to exploring the 10,000 islands with a man who’s family use to homestead on one of the islands. We worked our way up to Orlando and then Hurricane Michael hit the pan handle, originally a Category 1 then quickly due to warmer water turning to a Category 4. Florida is our home away from home and up in till last year was our base camp. We wanted to help but not get in the way so we researched a few relief charities and will be donating profits to Team Rubicon Disaster Response.

You only need a few things to enjoy the sunshine state, sunnies, sunblock and a swimsuit. We don’t sell sunblock or swimsuits but we do have a few pairs of Knockarounds limited edition Aloha Fridays! Perfect for any occasion especially coastal Florida, yes we know it’s not Polynesia but its sunny. You also need some where to stay and and we highly recommend The Star Sailor Motor Lodge in LostVenture, FL though they where hard to find the Moto Lodge is well worth the mis adventures to find them.

All adventures require a good note book and this one was no different, a little while back, in spring 2018, Field Notes dropped the “Coastal Collection”, 3 memo books each beautifully foil stamped with coasts from Maine to Florida. They are so rad and give off a slightly different color depending on the light. We met up with a man in Chokoloskee,FL who took us to explore the 10,000 islands national park while telling us stories about growing up there and how his family was forced off their family land, a small island in the now national park, we took down all the notes in our memo book and we fell in love with stories and ended up spending the whole day with him telling us how life was back before the “roads came in and motor homes showed up”.

To wrap up the collection we gave our sticker a little sun bleaching, we soften the colors and added for the first time 3 sizes options! We hope you enjoy it, every item has its own story and adventures in Florida come cheep, so get out there and don’t forget your sun block!
